Definitely Better Now - Ava Robinson

I got this debut novel through Book of the Month (if you do not have this subscription, I would highly recommend it). This book surprised me a little bit, I wasn’t really expecting to like it as much as I did. I enjoyed that there was a sub plot of romance and Ben was a really great character. Gold retriever boyfriend for sure, but I adored him. The story also has a good moral compass to it. I saw it as this: Everyone struggles with something in their life and it is up to you whether you let it define you and bring you down, or face it, own it, and make something new of yourself through it. It took me into the mind of a sober alcoholic which is a perspective I’ve never considered. With my own failings and addictions, this book did give me some hope. The only reason I did not give this book 4 stars was because it was slow for a good bit and I had to push through. But, for it being the author’s debut novel, it was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this book if you are on the fence.
